Charles Clarke releases new five-year plan
The strategy, named 'Controlling our borders: making migration work for Britain', sets out a wide-ranging plan. It includes efforts to ensure that only those who benefit Britain can come here to work or study. For example, a points system will be applied for those coming to the UK to work or study and only skilled workers will be allowed to settle long-term in the UK. The strategy also details how UK borders will be strengthened by the combination of a crack down on abuse and illegal immigration and an increase of removals.
