UK IMMIGRATION - HSMP: HIGHLY SKILLED MIGRANT PROGRAMME

Individuals who have suitable qualifications and skills required by UK businesses may be permitted to enter and work in the United Kingdom under the HSMP Programme. Find out if you qualify here.

Who Qualifies for HSMP programme?

Applicants are allocated points according to the following criteria:

  • Educational qualifications
  • Work experience
  • Past earnings
  • Achievement in a chosen field
  • Whether the application is a ‘priority application’

In each case, higher points are awarded for higher standards reached. Minimum point scores are set by the Home Office that are required.v

Additionally, the applicant must satisfy the following:

  • Ability to continue to work in the UK in the chosen field
  • Sufficient savings and/or potential income to support applicant and family without reliance on public funds

How long will Entry Clearance be granted for?

Initially when an application is approved, leave of 12 months is granted, with an opportunity to apply for extension for a further three years if the applicant is economically active at the end of the first year.

How to Obtain Entry Clearance under HSMP?

Entry Clearance has to be obtained from the nearest British Post by applying on specific application forms. In certain circumstances, applicants already in the UK for other purposes, may be able to switch to remain in the UK on the basis of HSMP.
